Honestly, I'm still on 10.6.8, myself (late 2009 21" iMac), and, if I were going to upgrade, I would skip 10.7 entirely and go for either 10.8 or 10.9. If you have macOS Sierra (the current macOS version), you can upgrade straight to High Sierra without doing any other software installations. If you are running Lion (version 10.7.5), Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite, or El Capitan, you can upgrade directly from one of those versions to Sierra.
There are two different types of OS one is Mac OS X Lion 10.7 ISO, DMG and the other one is OS X mountain lion. So please don't get confused…
