Because these models have additional RAM and FLASH they do not suffer from the constraints of the WRT54G and WRT54GL series and can run all versions of OpenWRT as of 11/1/2014. *Tested WRT54GS v3.0 can run bcm47xx-legacy version of OpenWRT 15.05.1 as of Aug 11, 2016.

The Version of your router (V7) refers to the innards. Firmware is a different story. Tomato only works on v1-v4. If you want to run Tomato you'll need to go to ebay and buy a v1, v2, v3, or v4 router. v5, v6, and v7 don't work with the Tomato stuff.
