As a guess I'd say all traffic is being routed through your VPN connection, but the OpenVPN server is not correctly set up to handle all network traffic (i.e. the appropriate NAT and firewall rules). You can use the instructions here to see if all traffic is being routed through the VPN connection from the client end:
